We've been staying here consistently since my cancer diagnosis over 3 years ago. Its proximity to UAB/Kirklin Clinic makes it convenient, but the staff makes it great. They are, without fail, polite, friendly and have been so kind to assist us. I'm thankful for this hotel, because it helps us make the best of what could be an otherwise difficult situation. I booked this property a full week before the check-in date to stay for two nights beginning on September 8 and checking out on September 10. Upon arrival, we were told that our room was not ready and not given a time in which it would be ready. This was at 10:30 PM. At 11 PM, my wife went back to speak with the front desk staff, to inquire when we would be able to check into our room. We were told that there was an entire floor being cleaned. The manager on duty stated that she had one room available which consisted of a king bed. It was located on the second floor, and was room 222. As we entered the room, we noticed that the bed with infested with bedbugs. We immediately took pictures, and exited the room. We notified the manager on duty of the situation, and she seem to know that this was already a problem. This inconvenienced us tremendously, because we were not able to stay in the hotel after traveling over 3.5 hours. Due to Hurricane Irma, there were no vacant hotel rooms within a 150 mile radius. We had to travel two hours in order to find somewhere to stay. We were very inconvenienced by this situation. There was no assistance provided by the staff to help find us somewhere to stay. The dangers of driving at this time of night could have been avoided had the hotel been up to par and not had bedbugs. We use Marriott properties consistently, but after this situation we may not utilize your business anymore.
Very comfortable and clean. Close to UAB and St Vincents Hospital. The hotel shuttle service was a huge plus. Will transport to and from airport and anywhere within 3 mile radius of hotel. There was no need to have a car. Grocery store right around the corner. Good, generous hot/cold breakfast every morning. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back.
The staff was amazing, Denise at the front desk went above and beyond to ensure that all our needs were met for our stay. Also want to recognize the housekeeping staff. My family and I truly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Thank you Springhill Suites by Marriott Birmingham, I will gladly stay again.
The thermostat stopped working during night 1 of our 2 night stay. They came and fixed it the next morning and then it stopped again the next morning. No bath mat on the first night. 2 flat sheets and a small blanket for the hide-a-bed. Had to call twice to ask for the blankets for the couch, on the 3rd call (over an hour after the first call and 30 min after the second call) we could get no answer at the front desk. Finally about 15 more mins someone brought the blankets yo us. The room was booked for 5 people and we only had 3 towels in the bathroom. The beds only had 3 pillows each. The bed next to the window left little room to get between it and the a.c. unit, under the unit the carpet tacks stuck up and ripped a hole in my sock. Breakfast was pretty good, and most staff were pleasant.
