One word huge!

The Birmingham art museum is free admissions between noon and five pm. They have friendly, knowledgeable security and staff on each floor for individual inquiries and the protection of the artwork. Provides on site devices linked to there site to help you get a better contextual link to the artist and their work. Some pieces even have audio of the artist or a video of art craft history and making process.

Very balanced atmosphere but understandably the operating costs prohibit more grandeur exhibits. The in-house catering for social events is very efficiently handled (although scarcity of tables/chairs for sit-down meals is surprising). The exhibits are genuine eye-candy but one should dig a little deeper if time permits on premises or later as practical.

Highly extensive. Also, very nice to wander through. Plus it's FREE. I've made trips to Birmingham just to go to the art museum, so that's saying something. They offer a good array of native American art, European art, and pottery collections as well as a rather fantastic modern contemporary art exhibit as well.

Parking at the garage to the left, past the event hall, was also free on Sunday.

It's free, so it would be hard to complain regardless, but it's also honestly worth a trip into town. Their Renaissance selection is surprisingly great! They cover European and American art with respectable volume and variety, and they hit all the other regions with smaller but still interesting selections. Plenty of historical background is provided. Each area goes beyond 2D art, showing off stuff like furniture or armor or pottery, too. There's a modern art section, as well. And the sculpture garden is just pleasant!

You can easily kill a few hours at this gallery.

I was thoroughly impressed. More Asian artifacts than I've seen nearly anywhere else. You really need several trips to give it it's due. The Third Space exhibit was tremendous. My 8 year old daughter loved the Bart Childrens area. Top notch experience. I can't wait to go back!!!!
